Rearranging the sensible heat equation to solve for temperature

Rather than calculating heat from a known temperature change, this works in reverse - starting from a known or targeted heat duty to find the resulting temperature rise in the combustion air stream.

Worked example

For 50 kW of heat input to 0.5 kg/s of air (specific heat 1.005 kJ/kg.K):

deltaT = 50 / (0.5 x 1.005) = 99.5 K temperature rise

This calculation is commonly used when sizing a combustion air preheater or estimating how much a specific amount of recovered waste heat will actually raise incoming combustion air temperature, directly informing both preheater design and expected fuel savings from the preheating.
