Why longer routes are disproportionately more valuable

The official Ticket to Ride scoring table deliberately rewards longer routes more than proportionally - a single 6-car route scores far more efficiently per train car used than claiming multiple shorter routes totaling the same number of cars.

Worked example

For a 6-car route:

Result = 15 points

This non-linear scaling is a core strategic consideration in the game - prioritizing long routes over an equivalent number of cars spread across shorter routes is generally the more points-efficient strategy.
