Why chasing a Yahtzee gets harder fast

Each rerolled die independently has a 1-in-6 chance of landing on any specific target value - since the dice are independent events, the probability all of them match multiplies together, making a full match dramatically less likely with each additional die rerolled.

Worked example

For 4 dice kept and 1 die rerolled:

P = (1/6)^1 = 16.6667% chance

This is exactly why chasing a Yahtzee (all 5 dice matching) from a weak starting hand is such a long shot - needing multiple dice to all cooperate compounds unfavorable odds very quickly.
