The Winner Scores Everyone Else's Leftover Cards
Uno's official scoring doesn't reward the winner for what they held — it charges every other player for what's still in their hand when the round ends, and hands those points to whoever went out first. That means a single hoarded Wild Draw Four sitting in an opponent's hand is worth as much as ten number cards, which is exactly why holding action cards too long is a common Uno mistake.
The Official Scoring Formula
Number cards (0–9) = face value
Skip, Reverse, Draw Two = 20 points each
Wild, Wild Draw Four = 50 points each
Total = Sum of number cards + (Action cards × 20) + (Wild cards × 50)

Where This Gets Used
- Playing to a target score — standard Uno house rules often play multiple rounds to 500 points, so accurate per-round totals matter over a full match.
- Settling disputes over a big hand — when a player is caught holding several action or wild cards, manually adding 20s and 50s across a full hand is error-prone under time pressure.
- Deciding when to play a Wild Draw Four — knowing it's worth 50 points if left in hand reinforces why holding it too long is risky if the round could end abruptly.
