APM Calculator

Measuring input speed in real-time strategy games

APM counts every input a player makes over time - unit commands, building construction, camera adjustments - and remains a widely cited (if imperfect) proxy for mechanical skill in RTS games like StarCraft.

Worked example

For 6,000 total actions over a 20-minute match:

APM = 6000 / 20 = 300.0 APM

Player LevelTypical APM Range
Casual player30-80
Competitive amateur100-200
Professional player200-400+

High APM does not automatically mean good decision-making - a significant share of professional players' APM comes from efficiency-driven repetition (like spamming production hotkeys) rather than unique strategic choices, which is why APM alone is an incomplete skill measure.
