Formula

Mutations Per Genome Per Generation = Mutation Rate x Genome Size
Total Expected Mutations = Mutations Per Generation x Generations

Example

A mutation rate of 1x10-8 per base per generation, across a 3.2 billion bp genome, over 1 generation:

Mutations Per Generation = 1x10-8 x 3,200,000,000 = 32 mutations

A Real-World Reference Point

Human germline mutation rates are commonly estimated around 1-1.5 x 10-8 mutations per base pair per generation based on whole-genome sequencing studies of parent-offspring trios - this translates to roughly several dozen new mutations in each child's genome that weren't present in either parent, forming the raw genetic material that natural selection and genetic drift act upon across subsequent generations.
