Table Runner Length Calculator
Getting runner proportions right
A table runner cut to the exact table length will sit flush at both ends, which usually looks abrupt rather than intentional - a modest overhang draping past each end of the table gives the runner visual weight and movement.
Worked example
For a 72-inch table with a 12-inch overhang planned on each end:
Runner Length = 72 + (2 x 12) = 96 in
| Overhang Per Side | Visual Effect |
|---|---|
| Under 6 in | Looks abrupt, minimal drape |
| 6 - 12 in | Standard, balanced drape |
| Over 18 in | Risk of pooling on chairs or floor |
