Turning a Raw Score Into a Letter Grade
A quiz result like "34 out of 40" takes a moment to interpret; a percentage with a letter grade attached is immediate. This calculator does that conversion for grammar quizzes, practice tests, or exercise sets, applying a standard percentage-to-letter-grade scale so results are comparable across quizzes of different lengths.
The Formula
Score % = (Correct Answers ÷ Total Questions) × 100
The percentage is then mapped to a letter grade using a standard cutoff scale, so a 34-out-of-40 result and an 85-out-of-100 result — both 85% — land on the same grade despite different quiz lengths.
Where This Matters
- Tracking grammar progress across different quiz sets — percentage and letter grade normalize results from quizzes of varying length, so a 9/10 and a 45/50 can be compared directly.
- Identifying weak grammar topics — running separate quiz results for different grammar points (verb tenses, prepositions, articles) through the calculator highlights which topics need more review.
- Benchmarking before a formal exam — practice test scores translated into a familiar letter grade give an intuitive sense of exam readiness.
| Score | Grade |

| 90% and above | A |
| 80% – 89.9% | B |
| 70% – 79.9% | C |
| 60% – 69.9% | D |
| Below 60% | F |
