Micronutrient Tracker Calculator

Turning a Logged Amount Into a Percentage That Means Something

A food tracker will tell you that you consumed, say, 6 mg of iron today — but on its own that number is meaningless without a target to compare it against. This calculator takes a current intake figure for one of seven commonly tracked minerals and vitamins and expresses it as a percentage of the Recommended Dietary Allowance for your age and sex, with a status label attached.

The Formula

% of RDA = (Current Intake ÷ Recommended Daily Allowance) × 100

The RDA itself is looked up by nutrient, age, and sex before this percentage is calculated — several of these nutrients have targets that shift meaningfully at age 50, most notably iron and calcium.

Adult RDA Reference by Nutrient

Iron drops sharply for women after 51 (18 mg to 8 mg) — it reflects the higher iron needs tied to menstrual blood loss before menopause. Calcium moves the opposite way for women, rising from 1,000 to 1,200 mg after 50.

Status Categories

Status labels applied to the computed percentage

Below 50%Deficient
50% to just under 100%Below Target
100% to 150%Target Met
Above 150%Above Target

Where This Is Useful

  • Spotting a gap early — a "Below Target" or "Deficient" label from a few days of logging is a concrete prompt to adjust diet or discuss supplementation.
  • Checking supplement stacking — combining food intake with a supplement dose can push some nutrients toward "Above Target," which this calculator flags rather than silently allowing.
  • Life-stage transitions — the age-51 shifts in iron and calcium targets mean the same logged intake can carry a different status simply because your age bracket changed.
Note: This tool compares logged intake against general population RDA figures for reference only, not a clinical nutrient deficiency assessment. Actual deficiency and excess require laboratory testing and clinical evaluation. Consult a healthcare professional before starting or adjusting any supplement.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select a Nutrient from the dropdown (Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, or Potassium).
  2. Enter your Current Daily Intake in the nutrient's standard unit.
  3. Enter your Age.
  4. Select Male or Female for Gender.
  5. Select Calculate for your percentage of RDA, status, and remaining amount to reach target.
