Body Weight Sets the Baseline, Conditions Adjust It

Fluid needs scale with body size before anything else — a larger body has more tissue to hydrate and a higher baseline metabolic water turnover. This calculator starts from a per-kilogram baseline and then layers on two adjustments that push needs upward: time spent exercising and a hot climate, both of which increase fluid loss through sweat.

The Formula

Baseline = Weight (kg) × 35 ml
+ Exercise Addition = Exercise Minutes × 12 ml
+ Climate Adjustment (Hot: +500 ml, Temperate: +0 ml)

The 35 ml-per-kilogram baseline is a commonly used general hydration guideline for healthy adults. The exercise addition and climate adjustment are separate, additive terms layered on top of that baseline rather than multipliers on it.
