Where the 60ml/kg Figure Comes From
Veterinary references commonly cite roughly 60ml of water per kilogram of body weight per day as a healthy baseline for both cats and dogs - actual needs shift with activity level, ambient temperature, and diet.
Wet Food Changes the Picture
Pets eating primarily wet or canned food typically drink noticeably less than this baseline, since wet food itself is often 70-80% moisture, contributing meaningfully to daily hydration outside of the water bowl.
