Why These Minimums Are Larger Than You'd Expect
These figures reflect updated welfare recommendations from hamster care advocacy communities, based on natural burrowing and roaming behavior observed in the wild - they're considerably larger than the small cages traditionally marketed as "starter" hamster habitats.
Roborovski Hamsters Need Extra Floor Space
Despite being one of the smallest hamster species, Roborovski hamsters are unusually active and fast-moving, which is why their recommended floor space is closer to a Syrian hamster's than to the similarly-sized Dwarf hamster.
