Time to Hire Calculator

Two Dates Tell the Whole Speed Story

Time to hire is deliberately narrow: it measures only the stretch between a requisition opening and a candidate accepting the offer, not the longer "time to fill" window that includes onboarding paperwork. That narrowness is what makes it useful — it isolates exactly how fast the hiring process itself moves, independent of everything that happens after an offer is signed.

The Formula

Time to Hire = Offer Accepted Date − Requisition Open Date

Where This Is Useful

  • Process benchmarking — track whether hiring process changes (fewer interview rounds, faster scheduling) actually shorten the timeline.
  • Candidate experience — a long time to hire increases the risk that a strong candidate accepts a competing offer before yours arrives.
  • Role-by-role comparison — some roles inherently take longer to fill than others; tracking time to hire per role type sets realistic expectations for hiring managers.
