YouTube Money Calculator

Views Don't Convert to Dollars at a Fixed Rate

YouTube ad revenue depends on RPM — revenue per mille, or revenue per 1,000 views — and RPM itself swings widely depending on niche, audience location, season, and ad demand. A finance or tech channel with a US-heavy audience can earn several times more per 1,000 views than an entertainment channel with a mostly international audience. This calculator projects earnings from views and a chosen RPM rather than assuming one universal rate.

The Formula

Estimated Earnings = (Views ÷ 1000) × RPM

RPM typically falls in the $2–$10 range per 1,000 views for most channels, though it can sit outside that range for unusually high- or low-value niches. Adjusting the RPM input to a channel's actual reported figure produces a far more accurate estimate than using a generic default.

Where This Matters

  • Forecasting revenue from a growth plan — projecting views out several months and applying a realistic RPM gives a rough revenue trajectory.
  • Comparing niches before starting a channel — the same view count in a high-RPM niche versus a low-RPM one can mean a multi-fold difference in earnings.
  • Sanity-checking actual AdSense payouts — if reported earnings differ substantially from this estimate, it usually points to an RPM well outside the typical range for the content type.

Estimated Earnings by View Count

Estimated earnings across the typical $2-$10 RPM range
ViewsAt $2 RPMAt $5 RPMAt $10 RPM
100,000$200$500$1,000
500,000$1,000$2,500$5,000
1,000,000$2,000$5,000$10,000
5,000,000$10,000$25,000$50,000

RPM figures are typical ranges for illustration; actual RPM is specific to each channel's audience and niche and can fall outside this range.
