Dice Roll Probability Calculator
Playing a board game and want to know your odds? This calculator computes exact probability for any dice sum.
Probability = (Favorable Outcomes / Total Possible Outcomes) x 100
Total Possible Outcomes = Sides^Number of Dice
Example
2 six-sided dice, targeting a sum of 7:
Total Outcomes = 36, Favorable = 6 → 16.67% chance
Why Middle Sums Are Always More Likely
Sums near the middle of the possible range are always more likely than sums near the extremes, like the minimum or maximum possible total - there are far more combinations of dice faces that add up to a middle value (like 7 on two six-sided dice) than to an extreme value (like 2 or 12).
Why 7 Is the Classic Example
This is exactly why 7 is the most commonly rolled sum with two standard six-sided dice, and why games like craps build core mechanics around this specific probability distribution rather than treating every possible sum as equally likely.
