Why Max Depth Is Less Than Simple Blade Radius

A blade's true maximum cutting depth is somewhat less than its simple radius, since blade guards, the arbor nut hardware at the blade's center, and the blade's own tooth geometry near the arbor all reduce the full usable cutting depth available in practice.

Why This Safety Margin Matters

This reference estimate applies a safety margin below the theoretical maximum specifically because cutting at the absolute physical limit of a blade's capacity often produces poor cut quality and increased kickback risk, since so little of the blade's teeth remain engaged with the material at that extreme depth.
