Engine Specific Power Output Calculator

Engine Specific Power Output Calculator

Comparing a 1.0L engine to a 5.0L engine by raw power alone tells you little - specific power output (power per liter of displacement) is the metric that actually reveals how highly tuned or boosted an engine is.

Formula: Specific Power = Power / Displacement

Example: 150 kW from a 2.0 L engine gives 75 kW/L.

Reference Range

Naturally aspirated production engines commonly land around 50-90 kW/L, while highly boosted turbocharged engines and racing engines can substantially exceed 100 kW/L - a useful shorthand for how hard an engine design is being pushed relative to its basic size.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter engine power output in kW.
  2. Enter engine displacement in liters.
