Planning a scavenger hunt that ends right on schedule - not fifteen minutes early or dragging on too long - comes down to matching clue count to your available time.
Number of Clues = Total Duration / Minutes Per Clue
Example
A 60-minute hunt, estimated at 5 minutes per clue:
Number of Clues = 60 / 5 = 12 clues
Pacing Tips
Too few clues and the hunt wraps up far earlier than planned, leaving participants with nothing to do - too many, and groups either rush carelessly through each clue or run out of time before reaching the end. Building in a small buffer (a couple of optional bonus clues held in reserve) is a common practical adjustment for handling groups that solve faster than the average estimate assumes.
