Artificial Turf Calculator

Artificial Turf Calculator

Artificial turf is sold in fixed-width rolls rather than plain square footage - this calculator converts your area into the correct roll length to order.

Linear Feet Needed = ceil((Area x 1.1 waste factor) / Roll Width)

Example

500 sq ft area using a 15 ft wide roll:

Linear Feet Needed = ceil((500 x 1.1) / 15) = 37 linear ft (555 sq ft purchased)

Why Irregular Shapes Need Extra Material

Irregular or curved area shapes almost always require purchasing more roll length than a simple area-to-area conversion suggests - seams should be minimized wherever possible, and turf grain direction (the way the synthetic fibers naturally lay) should run consistently across the entire installed area for the most natural, uniform finished appearance, which often means accepting some cut-off waste to maintain consistent grain direction.

Common Roll Widths

Artificial turf typically comes in 12 ft or 15 ft wide rolls, though this varies by manufacturer and product line - always confirm your specific product's actual roll width before finalizing quantity calculations.
