Landscaping Calculators

Artificial Turf Calculator

Calculate how much artificial turf roll length you need based on area to cover and roll width.

Fence Length Calculator

Calculate total fence length and post count from yard dimensions, gate openings, and post spacing, with a posts-needed table for common yard sizes.

Gravel Calculator

Convert area and fill depth into cubic yards and tons of gravel using material density, with a weight reference table across common driveway and base depths.

Irrigation Coverage Calculator

Estimate sprinkler heads needed for a lawn using standard head-to-head square spacing, with a coverage table across common nozzle radii and areas.

Landscape Berm Volume Calculator

Calculate the volume of fill soil needed to build a landscape berm based on length, base width, and height.

Landscape Edging Material Calculator

Calculate how many edging segments you need to border a lawn or planting bed based on total perimeter.

Landscape Fabric Calculator

Work out how many rolls of landscape fabric a bed needs, accounting for strip overlap and roll dimensions rather than raw bed area alone.

Lawn Fertilizer Calculator

Convert a fertilizer bag's nitrogen percentage and target application rate into the exact product weight needed per 1,000 square feet of lawn.

Mulch Calculator

Convert bed area and mulch depth into cubic yards and bag count, with a reference table showing volume for common depths from 2 to 4 inches across bed sizes.

Outdoor Landscape Lighting Calculator

Calculate total wattage load and recommended transformer size for a low-voltage landscape lighting system.

Paver Calculator

Calculate exact paver count from patio dimensions and unit size, including a waste allowance for cuts, with a coverage-per-paver table for common sizes.

Planting Hole Backfill Calculator

Calculate the volume of backfill soil needed for a planting hole based on hole dimensions and root ball volume.

Retaining Wall Block Calculator

Calculate how many retaining wall blocks you need based on wall length, height, and block dimensions.

Slope Grade Percentage Calculator

Calculate slope grade percentage and angle in degrees from rise and run measurements, with landscaping design guidance.

Sod Calculator

Turn yard dimensions into exact sod slabs and pallets needed, including a waste allowance for cuts and overlap plus standard pallet coverage reference figures.

Sprinkler Head Count Calculator

Calculate how many sprinkler heads you need for proper head-to-head coverage of a lawn area.

Topsoil Calculator

Convert area and fill depth into cubic yards and bags of topsoil needed, with a reference table across common depths for new lawns and garden beds.

Tree Removal Cost Calculator

Estimate tree removal cost based on trunk diameter, a common per-inch pricing rate, and access difficulty.

Tree Spacing Calculator

Work out plant counts for single-row plantings or area grid layouts based on spacing, with reference tables for hedges, orchards, and mass plantings.

Xeriscape Water Savings Calculator

Estimate annual water savings from converting a lawn area to drought-tolerant xeriscape landscaping.

Yards Are Measured in More Than Square Feet

Landscaping materials — mulch, gravel, sod, pavers — are sold by volume or area, which means a yard project's real cost depends on getting depth and coverage math right, not just the footprint. These ten calculators handle that material estimation.

More mulch is not always better: the generally recommended mulch depth is 2 to 4 inches. Piling mulch deeper than that, especially against a tree trunk in the "mulch volcano" style still commonly seen, can trap moisture against bark, encourage rot and pests, and in some cases suffocate a tree's root system rather than protecting it. The Mulch Calculator and Landscape Fabric Calculator both work from that recommended depth range rather than "more is safer."

Popular Landscaping Calculators

  • Sod Calculator — converts lawn area into the number of sod rolls or pallets needed.
  • Paver Calculator — calculates paver quantity needed for a patio or walkway area.
  • Irrigation Coverage Calculator — estimates sprinkler head count and spacing needed for even coverage.
