Landscape Edging Material Calculator
Landscape Edging Material Calculator
Defining a clean boundary between lawn and planting beds keeps grass and mulch from migrating into each other over time - this calculator estimates how many edging segments you'll need.
Segments Needed = ceil(Bed Perimeter / Segment Length)
Example
A 40 ft bed perimeter using 8 ft edging segments:
Segments Needed = ceil(40/8) = 5 segments
Curves Need More Material
Curved bed shapes typically need more segments (and more overlap or cutting waste) than a straight-edged rectangular bed of the same total perimeter, since flexible edging follows tight curves less efficiently than a straight run - budget extra material for beds with significant curves in their design.
Material Choices
Landscape edging comes in many materials - metal (steel or aluminum), plastic, brick, or concrete pavers - each with different installation methods and segment lengths, so confirm the actual segment length of your chosen product before finalizing your material order.
