Gas Mixture Heating Value Calculator

Blended fuel gases - biogas mixed with natural gas, or landfill gas with variable methane content - need a properly weighted heating value calculation, not a simple average of the two source gases.

The Formula

HV_mix = x₁ × HV₁ + x₂ × HV₂

Worked Example

A blend that is 60% of a 38 MJ/m³ gas and 40% of a 22 MJ/m³ gas: HV_mix = 0.6 × 38 + 0.4 × 22 = 31.6 MJ/m³.
