Combustion Air Blower Power Calculator
Real blowers always need more power than the ideal minimum
Ideal power represents a perfectly efficient blower with zero losses, which doesn't exist in practice - real combustion air blowers typically run 60-80% efficient, with the remainder lost as heat and mechanical friction.
Worked example
For 2 m3/s of airflow against 2,000 Pa pressure rise, at 70% blower efficiency:
Ideal Power = 2 x 2000 = 4.0 kW
Actual Power = 4.0 / 70% = 5.714 kW required (ideal: 4.0 kW)
Always size the actual motor to the calculated actual power figure, not the ideal one - undersizing based on theoretical minimum power is a common and costly mistake in blower and fan system design.
