Boiler Steam Generation Calculator: Predict Steam Output From Fuel Input

Knowing how much steam a boiler can produce from a given fuel input rate is essential for sizing, load planning, and verifying that a boiler is performing to spec. This calculator converts fuel energy input, adjusted for boiler efficiency, into a steam mass flow rate using the enthalpy gain of the water-to-steam conversion.

The Formula

Steam Generation (kg/hr) = (Fuel Input(kW) × Efficiency% × 3600) / Enthalpy Gain(kJ/kg)

Worked Example

A boiler receives 1,000 kW of fuel input, operates at 85% efficiency, and the enthalpy gain from feedwater to steam is 2,200 kJ/kg.

Useful Heat = 1,000 × 0.85 × 3600 = 3,060,000 kJ/hr

Steam Generation = 3,060,000 / 2,200 = 1,390.91 kg/hr
