Boiler Circulation Ratio Calculator

Boiler Circulation Ratio Calculator

In a natural or forced circulation boiler, far more water circulates through the tubes than actually leaves as steam - circulation ratio describes exactly how much more.

Formula: Ratio = Water Circulated / Steam Generated

Example: 50,000 kg/hr circulated against 5,000 kg/hr of steam generated gives a 10:1 circulation ratio.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter total water circulation rate through the boiler tubes.
  2. Enter the actual steam generation rate.

Natural circulation boilers commonly run ratios of roughly 4:1 to 20:1 - higher pressure boilers typically need lower ratios or forced circulation, since higher pressure reduces the steam-water density difference that drives natural circulation.
