Study Hours Calculator
From a Total Hours Goal to a Weekly Routine
A study plan built only around a total hours target — "I need 600 hours" — doesn't tell you anything about what your week actually looks like. This calculator closes that gap: it takes a total hours goal, your planned daily study time, and how many days a week you're realistically available, and returns the number of weeks (and total study days) the plan will take. It's the scheduling layer that sits on top of a fluency-time or CEFR-level estimate.
The Formula
Weeks Needed = Goal Hours ÷ Hours per Week
Total Study Days = ceiling(Goal Hours ÷ Hours per Day)
Weeks needed treats the weekly study rate as constant, while total study days counts only the actual days spent studying — useful when days per week is less than 7 and the calendar span differs from the number of study sessions.
Where This Matters
- Converting an FSI or CEFR hour target into a schedule — once you know the total hours a language or level requires, this turns that number into a concrete weekly commitment.
- Testing different study intensities — comparing 3 days a week against 7 days a week for the same daily session length shows how much a rest-day routine extends the calendar timeline versus a daily one.
- Setting a deadline-driven pace — working backward from a target date, this shows what daily and weekly commitment is required to hit it.
| Goal hours | 1 hr/day | 2 hr/day | 3 hr/day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 hours | 60 weeks | 30 weeks | 20 weeks |
| 600 hours | 120 weeks | 60 weeks | 40 weeks |
| 900 hours | 180 weeks | 90 weeks | 60 weeks |
