Archive Box Capacity Calculator
Organizing paper records into storage boxes? This calculator estimates how many folders fit based on box interior length and average folder thickness.
Max Folders = floor(Box Interior Length / Average Folder Thickness)
Example
24-inch interior length box, 0.25-inch average folder thickness:
Max Folders = floor(24/0.25) = ~96 folders
Why "Average" Thickness Matters
Folder thickness varies significantly based on document count per folder - a mostly-empty folder might be under 0.1 inches thick, while a folder stuffed with receipts or reports could exceed 0.5 inches, so using a realistic average for your specific records set improves accuracy.
Leave Room for Easy Retrieval
Packing a box to its absolute mathematical maximum makes flipping through folders to find a specific one considerably harder - leaving roughly 10-15% slack space is common practice for boxes that will be accessed regularly rather than placed in long-term deep storage.
