Recommended Box Length = Cat Length(nose to base of tail) x 1.5
Example
An 18-inch cat (measured nose to base of tail):
Recommended Length = 18 x 1.5 = 27.0 inches
Why Box Size Matters More Than People Think
Veterinary behaviorists commonly recommend a litter box at least 1.5 times the cat's body length to allow comfortable turning, digging, and covering behavior - undersized boxes are a frequently cited contributing factor when cats begin eliminating outside the box.
Most Store-Bought Boxes Are Too Small
