Bias Tape Length Calculator
Bias Tape Length Calculator: Bind an Edge Without Running Short
Binding an edge with bias tape requires slightly more tape than the raw edge measurement, to allow for a clean, overlapped join where the two ends meet. This calculator adds that overlap allowance for you.
The Formula
Bias Tape Length = Edge Perimeter + Overlap Allowance
Worked Example
A 60" edge to bind, with the standard 2" overlap allowance.
Bias Tape Length = 60 + 2 = 62 inches
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the total perimeter of the edge you're binding in inches.
- Optionally adjust the overlap allowance (2" is standard).
- Click Calculate to get the total bias tape length needed.
