Garment Ease Calculator
Garment Ease Calculator
Drafting or adjusting a garment pattern? This calculator adds the correct ease allowance to your body measurement for the fit you want.
Reference Ease Amounts
Fitted: +1in | Semi-Fitted: +2.5in | Loose: +4in | Oversized: +6in
Example
A 36-inch body measurement, semi-fitted style:
Finished Measurement = 36 + 2.5 = 38.5 inches
Why Zero Ease Isn't the Goal
Ease is deliberate extra room built into a garment beyond exact body measurements, allowing for basic movement and everyday comfort - a garment cut to your exact body measurement with zero ease would be uncomfortably tight and restrict simple actions like sitting, reaching, or breathing deeply.
These Are General Reference Ranges
Actual ease amounts vary somewhat by garment type, fabric stretch, and personal preference - a stretch knit fabric can use noticeably less ease than these reference woven-fabric figures while still feeling comfortable, since the fabric itself provides some give.
