Burner Combustion Chamber Heat Release Density Calculator
Two burners with the same heat output can be very different designs if one packs that output into a much smaller chamber - heat release density is the metric that captures this.
The Formula

Worked Example
500 kW of heat input in a 0.8 m³ chamber: q′′′ = 500 / 0.8 = 625 kW/m³.
Reference Range
Typical firetube and watertube boiler furnaces are often designed in a range of roughly 200-1,200 kW/m³ depending on fuel type and chamber design - higher values pack more punch into less refractory and steel but demand more careful cooling and materials selection.
