Burner Gas Train Pipe Sizing Calculator

Burner Gas Train Pipe Sizing Calculator

Undersized gas train piping causes excess pressure drop and noise; oversized piping wastes money and space. This calculator finds the minimum pipe diameter that keeps velocity under a chosen safe limit.

The Formula

D = √(4Q / (π × Vmax))

Worked Example

50 m³/hr of gas flow, limited to 15 m/s maximum velocity: converting to 0.0139 m³/s and solving gives a minimum inside diameter of about 34.3 mm.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the gas flow rate in m³/hr.
  2. Enter your maximum allowable velocity (often 10-20 m/s for low-pressure gas train piping).
