Bitcoin Profit Calculator
Fetching live BTC price…
Starting From a Dollar Amount, Not a Coin Amount
Many buyers think in terms of "I put $20,000 into Bitcoin," not in terms of how many coins that bought. This calculator starts from the dollar amount invested and works forward: it converts that investment into a BTC quantity at the entry price, applies an exchange fee on both the buy and sell side, and then converts back to dollars at the exit price. It's the natural version of a profit calculation for anyone who bought a fixed dollar amount rather than a round coin quantity.
The Formula
Proceeds = BTC Bought × Exit Price × (1 − Fee%)
Profit = Proceeds − Amount Invested
ROI = (Profit ÷ Amount Invested) × 100
The same exchange fee percentage is applied on both legs here, which reflects exchanges that charge one flat trading fee rather than separate buy and sell rates.
A Worked Example
Investing $20,000 at an entry price of $40,000 per BTC, exiting at $52,000 per BTC, with a 0.5% exchange fee on each leg:
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| BTC Bought | ($20,000 × 0.995) ÷ $40,000 | 0.49750000 BTC |
| Proceeds | 0.4975 × $52,000 × 0.995 | $25,740.65 |
| Profit | $25,740.65 − $20,000.00 | $5,740.65 |
| ROI | $5,740.65 ÷ $20,000.00 × 100 | 28.70% |
Figures are illustrative only, not current market prices.
Where This Calculation Matters
- Dollar-cost investors — anyone who bought a fixed dollar amount rather than a round number of coins can see the exact BTC quantity that purchase produced.
- Fee-adjusted planning — because fees compound on the entry and exit, this shows a more realistic net return than subtracting entry price from exit price alone.
- Scenario testing — trying a range of hypothetical exit prices against a known entry to see what profit different targets would produce.
How to Use This Calculator

- Enter the entry price per BTC in dollars.
- Enter the exit price per BTC in dollars.
- Optionally enter the exchange fee percentage, applied to both the buy and sell.
- Select Calculate to see the BTC bought, dollar profit, and ROI.
