Minting Costs Money Before a Single NFT Ever Sells
Minting a batch of NFTs means paying gas on every mint transaction, regardless of whether any of them sell afterward. That up-front cost, multiplied across a whole collection, can be a meaningful chunk of a project's budget before any revenue arrives. This calculator separates the pure minting cost from what happens on a later sale, factoring in both a marketplace fee and the gas cost of that follow-on transaction, so the full cost picture — not just the mint — is visible.
The Formula
Total Mint Fee = Fee per NFT × Number of NFTs
Net Proceeds (if sold) = Sale Price − Marketplace Fee − Gas Fee per NFT
A Worked Example
Minting 3 NFTs at 85,000 gas each, at 25 gwei and a $3,000 ETH price, then selling one at 0.5 ETH with a 2.5% marketplace fee:

- Collection launch budgeting — estimating total minting cost across an entire collection before committing to a mint date.
- Timing a mint — gas price fluctuates by time of day and network activity, so comparing costs at different gwei levels helps identify cheaper windows.
- True net proceeds — combining marketplace fees with gas costs to see what a sale actually nets after every deduction.
