Common Misconception: "Impermanent Loss Is a Scam Term"
It is not marketing spin — impermanent loss is a real, calculable mechanical effect of how constant-product liquidity pools work, not a hidden fee. It happens when the price ratio of two pooled assets shifts after you deposit:
It is called "impermanent" because it only becomes permanent if you withdraw while the ratio is still shifted — if the ratio returns to its original level first, the loss disappears. And it does not necessarily mean losing money overall: trading fees earned from providing liquidity can offset or exceed it, which is why the real decision is comparing expected fee income against price-shift risk for that specific pool.
