The hard-coded schedule behind Bitcoin's fixed supply
Bitcoin's protocol cuts the mining block reward exactly in half approximately every 210,000 blocks (roughly every 4 years) - this predictable, hard-coded halving schedule is what enforces Bitcoin's fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins.
Worked example
For the original 50 BTC reward after 4 halvings:
Current Reward = 50 / 2^4 = 3.125 per block
This result matches Bitcoin's actual current block reward exactly - following the April 2024 halving (the network's 4th halving event), miners now receive 3.125 BTC per block, down from the original 50 BTC reward at the network's 2009 launch.
This is informational only, not financial advice - block reward schedules affect miner economics but do not directly predict future price.
