Why Bleed Exists At All
Commercial printing and trimming isn't perfectly precise at a microscopic level, so any design element meant to reach the very edge of a page needs to actually extend past the final trim line — typically an extra 1/8 inch (3mm) — so that minor trimming variation doesn't leave a thin sliver of unprinted white paper at the edge. Skipping bleed is one of the most common and avoidable reasons a print job comes back looking unprofessional, and it's a mistake that's invisible on a digital screen proof but immediately visible on the physical printed piece.

Why does print resolution need to be higher than screen resolution?
Print is viewed up close at higher effective resolution than a screen, so images that look sharp at 72 DPI on a monitor typically need 300 DPI or more to avoid visible pixelation once printed at the same physical size.
Does GSM measure the same thing as paper weight in pounds?
They both measure paper weight but with different reference standards, so GSM (grams per square meter) and pound-based paper weight require a conversion rather than a direct one-to-one comparison across paper types.
