The Simplest Quality Metric That Matters Most
Of everything a production run can be measured on, yield — the share of output that's actually good — is often the number that most directly affects the bottom line, since scrapped or reworked units still consumed material, machine time, and labor without generating sellable output. This calculator turns the raw good-versus-total unit counts into that percentage.

Where This Matters
- Quality control tracking — a declining yield trend, even by a percentage point or two, is often the earliest signal of a tooling, material, or process drift issue.
- Feeding the OEE quality component — yield is the same figure used as the "Quality" factor in overall equipment effectiveness calculations.
- Supplier and process comparisons — yield gives a like-for-like way to compare two suppliers, machines, or shifts on output quality alone.
Yield here is a first-pass measure — it counts units that came out good on this run, and doesn't distinguish between scrapped units and units that were reworked into good parts. Where that distinction matters, first-pass yield and rolled-throughput yield are typically tracked separately.
